T H White

T.H.White : I was disappointed in " The Book of Merlyn" the first time I read it back in the late 70's. White had planned it as the final coda to his classic "The Once and Future King " but it wasn't published until 1977,many years later. I've just picked it up again to reread . I thought " The Once and Future King " wove a very powerful spell, that Disney, for all his craft, had once again vulgarly missed the point, and that "Mistress Masham's Repose ", which I'm lucky enough to have in the beautiful Folio Society edition, is very nearly as good. So it's back to Merlyn for me,White being the sort of author that inspires real love and loyalty.
