I remember a review by Richard Williams in the Melody Maker, way back in the early 70’s, describing a record by the then unknown Airto Moreira as something that might appeal to fans of both Miles Davis and the Incredible String Band. Just so. Airto’s ideas and sounds not only were exotic and fresh, but somehow organic, natural, and  exactly complimentary to the electrically heated  music being explored at that pivotal time, the jungle Yin to counter-balance the Urban Yang. His music also seemed to carry  if not healing, then certainly soothing, properties, even at its most frenetic. Some early Airtoes that really did put a spring in my step and a smile in my heart… >
